This painting depicts the outback from the road before sunrise. ( the same colours could be used to describe the same setting after the sun has just gone down) The sky in this piece is streaky, cloudy and very intense in colour. I have used my favourite abstract splatter/drip effect to create the silhouette of the plants on the horizon and the shapes that this has created really does look like the forms of small shrubs and trees and gives a spontaneous energy to the painting.
The sky is in Pthalo Blue and to balance the painting the foliage has been painted in a dark Prussian blue rather than black. I love the way that blue and orange compliment each other and it is a colour pairing that I often use in my work.
