Acrylic on canvas

This painting of the iconic Australian bushranger ‘Ned Kelly’ was painted using a painting method I call the ‘Rub back’ technique. I have tried to give the appearance of metal by painting in dark shades and then removing the semi dry paint in areas where I want highlights. I remove the paint using a damp cloth and plenty of elbow grease, which can bring areas right back to the bare canvas.I have also used a painting knife to put in some of the final details and colour highlights.
I have had a real interest in the story of the Kelly gang for many years and have visited several of the historical locations. This painting is my tribute to a really fascinating part of Australia’s history.
